THE LADY IN WHITE, 2023

The work depicts a young woman with an almost frontal face; her gaze, sweet but cold almost glacial, appears fixed towards an undeciphered point beyond the borders of the picture; she is a real and material face: the surface of the painting is furrowed for the most part by layers of adhesive paper on which the entire pictorial part rests, thus underlining the reliefs of the design visible in the geometric structure of the pair of glasses then traced by essential brushstrokes. However, the graphic / pictorial technique renders grace and virtue to her unknown face; the trace of irregular marks with the brush create a sort of scratched pattern made of "smudges" that make the various shades vibrate. The color in the background, the metallic pink of the shirt and the intense blue of the hair help to create contrasting areas that delimit the whole composition into compartments. Even if we are talking about a portrait of modest dimensions (24 x 30 cm) it does not however preclude the observer from feeling a space beyond it in a hypothetical seated pose of the woman. There is therefore the almost tangible sensation of wanting to give a marked sign to the construction of the image which appears mixed by a refined drawing with impressionist connotations accompanied by large areas of color thus leading the observer to collect all these clues for a more complete understanding of the work.
